Why You Should Always Pack Duct Tape In Your Car

If there ever were such a thing as a nearly universal repair kit, it would have to be summed up in duct tape.

This marvelous stuff has many claims (many of which are ridiculous), and an almost unlimited usage. It is claimed that the astronauts used it on both Apollo 13 and 17, and it is supposedly required on all subsequent missions. Duct tape is certainly a handy item that you need to have with you at all times - even on earth bound missions in your vehicle.

Invented during World War II, and originally army green, it was intended to be a waterproof (hence - duck tape, originally) general-purpose tape. After the war, it was made silver, or gray, because its early purposes were to hold ductwork together. Since then, its uses make it the most universal tool. Here are some uses - and reported uses - for your car.

  1. Tape together a cracked windshield
  2. Tape a broken side mirror into place - so it can still be used
  3. Fix a broken taillight on the car
  4. Tape wires out of the way
  5. Hold your trunk lid shut when carrying large objects.
  6. Make a new bumper sticker
  7. Tape plastic over broken car window
  8. Hold damaged car door shut
  9. Tape luggage to roof rack - if you forgot your rope.
  10. Tape rips in the seat covers
  11. Patch holes in convertible tops
  12. Use it to clean up dirt when a vacuum cleaner is unavailable
  13. Hide unsightly rust holes
  14. Create a temporary seal to keep water out of windshield
  15. Tape loose quarter panels

These and so many other purposes can be added to the list. Many websites contain more idea – but these will get you thinking about why you need to always carry a roll of duct tape in your car. In emergency situations, it also has many other uses.
