The Duck Tape Prom Contest-Making Your Prom Attire From Duct Tape

If you’re into fashion and you’re a teenager, there’s a contest out there that might seem a little crazy at first, but it will be well worth your while to enter.

The Duck Tape Prom Contest is an annual event in its sixth year and is sponsored by Henkel Consumer Adhesives, Inc., the marketers of the Duck® brand duct tape.

In 2006, they upped the prize to a $6,000 scholarship for college. The fact is this is not an academic contest. It’s a contest that anyone with a little imagination and creativity can win. High school students can either use duct tape on existing formalwear or they can create their own formalwear from fabric made from duct tape. The contest rules state that it must be a couple that enters together and a picture must be taken and sent in to enter.

While Henkel may sponsor the contest, there is no rule stating that you have to use the Duck® brand duct tape. However, contestants will find that they provide many colors of duct tape to choose from when fashioning prom attire. With colors like Funky Flamingo and purple and black, high school students will be able to fashion a fun and colorful dress and suit.

Besides having a chance to win a $6,000 scholarship for college, high school students who enter the contest will have a chance to win such titles as “ Most Likely to be a Class Clown”, “Most Likely to Stop Traffic” and “Most Likely to have NOT Heard of Colored Duct Tape.” Winners of titles will receive a cash prize of $200.

The markets of Duck® brand duct tape knew what they were doing when they decided to sponsor such a contest. When prom time rolls around, high school students save their pennies to purchase duct tape and with the variety of colors, it’s no wonder they choose the Duck® brand duct tape.

Each year the contest begins in early March and the entries must be received in early June. You can find out more by checking out the contest online at duckbrand.com.
