Storage Solutions: Solving the Cash Stash Crisis
Easy instructions
on how to make a duct tape wallet for your money
and credit cards.
It’s no secret that credit and debit card use
has steadily been increasing over the past
decade. With credit card information stored on
key rings, online stores and kept on file at
your local pizza joint, some Americans are
finding wallets and purses to be extra baggage
rather than a storage space for their money. But
for those rare situations you need to carry
cash, you’ll need a wallet - the classic cash
stasher. Don’t rush out to buy one, you can make
a wallet with some handy dandy duct tape.
First, you’ll need to make a sheet of duct tape
that is seven inches long by four strips wide.
- Start with a strip of
duct tape, sticky side up, on your table.
- Place a second strip,
sticky side up and overlapping the edge of
the first strip a little.
- Repeat twice more and
you will have four strips of duct tape
overlapping, all sticky side up.
- Layer strips of duct
tape, sticky side down perpendicular to and
over the sticky side up sheet.
- Repeat with
additional strips of duct tape until the
sticky sides are covered. Don't forget to
overlap the edges.
- Trim the edges
Second, you’ll assemble
the wallet:
- Fold the sheet into a
rectangle by folding in half.
- Tape just one of the
short sides of the rectangle to seal the
edge.
- Trim off the extra
tape.
- Fold the wallet in
half so the short sides line up.
- Keep the wallet
folded, trim the excess, then tape the other
short side. Taping the second side after you
fold and trim will help ensure the wallet
will fold without bulging.
If you need additional
pockets, for those pesky credit cards or
important business cards, create another sheet
of duct tape (the First steps). Attach your
additional pockets with more tape.
Remember that you aren’t confined to a silver
wallet. Try making a wallet with camouflage tape
for the outdoorsman in your life or a trendy
red-with-yellow-stripe wallet when you’re
feeling sassy.
