Another Use For Duct Tape - Treating Warts
Strange as it may
sound researchers have found that duct tape is
effective in treating warts.
We’ve all heard about the
various uses of duct tape. From fixing your
plumbing to fashioning a prom dress, duct tape
seems up to the job, no matter how tough it is.
However, the uses of duct tape has expanded to a
medical device. Researchers have found that duct
tape is effective in treating warts.
Common warts occur in millions of individuals
each year. They are simply a an overgrowth of
skin caused by a virus that infects the skin and
the result are warts. While they are more common
in young children and adolescents, adults can be
affected by them, as well. Common treatments of
these warts include salicylic acid, liquid
nitrogen (also called cryosurgery), and surgical
removal. However, duct tape is now becoming a
more common treatment for removing warts as
medical research has proven it to work.
With the study that was done, duct tape
treatment was compared to cryosurgery. Of those
treated, 85% of the duct tape treatment of warts
were effective compared to only 60% of the
cryosurgery. While the duct tape treatment
caused minor skin irritation and sometimes the
duct tape was difficult to keep on, the result
was that duct tape treatment was very effective
in removing warts.
To treat a common warts, a small piece of duct
tape should be applied over the wart and worn
for six days. On the sixth day, remove the tape
and soak the area in water before you use a
pumice stone or emery board to scrape the area.
The following day, apply the duct tape,
repeating the six-day routine of soaking and
scraping. This treatment can be done until the
wart goes away or up to two months, however,
research indicated that if there was no response
to the treatment within a few weeks, the duct
tape treatment would probably not be effective
in removing the wart.
When duct tape was first discovered, nobody
could have guessed just how big duct tape would
become. The uses are many and now we’ve added
one more as duct tape is effective in treating
warts.
